Outstanding school superintendent award for Dr. Danielsen

Since 1982 the South Dakota School Superintendent’s Association (SDSSA) Executive Committee annually selects one of its members as the Outstanding South Dakota School Superintendent. The Superintendent selected must demonstrate creativity in successfully meeting the needs of students in his or her school system; strength in both personal and organizational communication; constant improvement of administrative knowledge and skills, while providing professional development opportunities and motivation to others on the education team; and active participation in local community activities and an understanding of regional, national, and international issues.

Stuart Stein, Watertown School District (WSD) Board President announced that Dr. Jeff Danielsen was selected as the Outstanding School Superintendent. There are 148 public school superintendents in South Dakota and Dr. D is the first superintendent to receive this honor in WSD history.

Dr. D is known for his dad jokes and fun socks, service to organizations like the South Dakota High School Activities Association and Watertown Area Community Foundation, and proactive approach to leading the District while navigating the complexities of public school funding. Most importantly, Dr. D works to empower all students to succeed at WSD.

“Dr. Danielsen’s leadership and dedication to putting students first has continuously helped the Watertown School District move forward,” said Derek Barrios, Assistant Superintendent. “His passion for the District, and public education in general, serves as a guiding light for those around him.”
